You can also choose to run your own education program and simply use the Resort as a home base for meals, accommodation and facilities.

The mountains are an amazing teaching and learning environment that inspire creativity, imagination and understanding. LEARNING THROUGH EXPERIENCE

An excursion is a learning experience and should be an integral part of the school’s curriculum and the students’ learning program. The Kosciuszko Education Program, which has been operating since 1989, offers programs that are designed to enhance understanding through direct observation and experience so that syllabus outcomes are achieved.

Our programs aim to give students the opportunity to observe, explore, enjoy and learn about the forest environment through structured activities in a supportive environment.

KOSCIUSZKO ALPINE AREA - A FRAGILE ENVIRONMENT

The possibility of studying the lithosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere in the fragile Kosciuszko alpine area, combined with looking at the impact people have had on this environment and how the area is now being managed makes this a popular study topic for senior high school geography and biology students.

Our programs include opportunities for students to acquire knowledge through direct observations, field measurement, recording information, drawing field sketches, asking questions and working in teams. The students identify, gather, interpret and evaluate information from a range of sources and communicate ideas and information.

Snowy Hydro Education

Snowy Hydro has an extensive education program that offers a unique learning experience for students from Primary School to Year 12. Snowy Hydro employs Education Officers to develop, design and implement a range of projects and initiatives for local schools and for visiting schools from around Australia.

A range of education classroom resources has been produced specifically for schools, each providing an appropriate case study for a range of syllabuses. Each resource is outlined in this section through their appropriate stages.

As well as these classroom resources, the Snowy Mountains Scheme Information and Education Centre situated in Cooma (just over an hour from Canberra) has a range of activities tailored to fit your programs. The Centre focuses on the Schemes power stations, dams, water resources and energy market but it also includes displays on key topics such as environment, engineering, history and irrigation. Exhibits ranging from pedal-power bikes, an interactive energy market and hands-on models reinforce a dynamic learning experience for students of all ages. Education Officers at the Centre deliver tailored presentations to students about the Scheme, as well as showing some of the many films in our lecture theatres.

For more information on university site visits and school visits to the Information and Education Centre, contact one of our Education Officers.
